Shiny nylon-lycra leggings are awesome for ladies wrestling. Over the years, several lady wrestlers have worn such leggings into the ring: Sherri Martel was without a doubt one of the most famous wearers of these pieces of legwear.
Cindy Rogers wore leggings for pretty much all her bouts and the shiny black nylon lycra ones, combined with a black leather jacket have pretty much become a staple-look for her. The shiny nylon-lycra leggings can be worn alone, with a matching top, or they can be worn under a leotard, instead of pantyhose. Nylon lycra leggings come in a variety of weights: some of them are thick and extremely sturdy, while others are thin and flimsy, barely stronger than some high-DEN pantyhose. Sherri Martel always wore her leggings (whether they were pink or neon-yellow) without a leotard on top. During the 80s, wearing such leggings with leotards to the gym was quite fashionable, and that fashion apparently carried over to the ladies’ wrestling ring too.

Why would one wear a pair of shiny nylon-lycra leggings instead of pantyhose under the leotard for the ring? For added modesty of course. Pantyhose are transparent almost without exception, so if a lady wrestler is aiming to hide a bruise or two on her legs, they’re not quite suited for that purpose. Shiny nylon lycra leggings on the other hand cover everything up, while in the same time highlighting the beauty of the wearer’s legs through their glossy surface. Leggings are also immune to the runs/ladders which can ruin the perfect look of pantyhosed legs within a fraction of a second. Lycra leggings are therefore more suited to withstand the wear and tear in the wrestling ring. Another advantage stemming from the nature of the glossy lycra material is that these leggings are quite slippery too. They make the wearer’s legs slippery, thus making the escaping of various leg-holds easier.

   Shiny nylon-lycra leggings are available in several styles. Some feature nylon lace trims, others come in capri-length, which means they only go slightly under the knees. Reggie Bennett used to wear such Capri length leggings in some of her LPWA matches. The bottom line is that properly sized shiny lycra leggings create a great visual effect on the legs and the sturdy material – well superior in physical proprieties to nylon pantyhose – offers great protection against mat-burn. Also, these leggings are extremely easy to get in and out of, therefore they’re practical for female wrestlers too.
