Crystal White (Carmichael) Interview
A couple of days ago I added Crystal White (Carmichael) on Facebook and we got around to chatting a little bit. To make a long story short: she is an awesome person (in more ways than one) and she agreed to do an interview with me online, so this is going to be a bit different from other interviews we have done in the past.
Crystal White (Carmichael): I just wanted to say, I love your Web site! Very informative. I may have to add to my arsenal of moves and holds!
Catch Queen: Yes, I'm a wrestling nut...in fact I just finished my women's wrestling holds e-book, it'll be available at the site for free.
I reckon you already have a pretty vast arsenal of moves...I do know you wrestled in high school so you're legit from every angle...I remember when you once wrestled for Nikki's Pindowngirls, you destroyed them all...
Crystal White (Carmichael): Haha, I did!I know some moves, but never hurts to know a couple more.
Catch Queen: You bet! Listen, would you like answer a few questions in an interview-type of format right here? I would create an interview page for you at the site from it....
Catch Queen: I know you wrestled in high school, so your wrestling roots go back way more than those of most other professional lady wrestlers...how did you get into high school wrestling? And what was your high school record?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Actually, some wrestlers from Northwestern U came to the summer camp I was at before freshman year. Yeah, I was still young enough to go, lol. I guess it's a couple reasons, but the main one was I wasn’t interested in the other sports - I suck at basketball (can't dribble and run and blink at the same time I guess lol) and tennis (tiny wrist). And after a slight growth spurt I had that didn't help with my popularity much with the girls lol, I would just hang by myself a lot. Saw them practicing and they invited me to try it. I remember pretty well actually. I was big -not fat - for a kid my age, it was weird. I had to cut 10lbs for my first high school match. That's that retro picture in my album. I miss my coach...
Oh, no idea what my record was, long time ago and a lot of matches lol. I've never been one for remembering things like that though. Head-butting I'm sure didn't help lol.
Catch Queen: I've been aching to ask you this forever: I know that no one in professional wrestling sells a clothesline the way you do...it’s like you get completely leveled and destroyed by the move. Who taught you that or where did you pick that up?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Haha, it's just one of those things… hard to get control of my legs once I'm going backwards like that I guess. Oh, and I once had an inner ear infection while wrestling Athena in WEW, didn't know that affected your balance, felt like I twisted in the air when I took a bump. But I digress... I guess it's just the way I'm built, long body, big boobs and head like a sucker or something, lol.
Catch Queen: Well, it looks awesome! How tall are you by the way, because you seem to tower over some of your opponents?
Crystal White (Carmichael): 5'8, grew about 2 more inches after high school. My old pro boots had about 2in on the sole. And my temp boots I've worn the past couple recent matches have 4in wedges. Really helps to elongate the legs. But I wouldn't recommend them to other girls though lol. I'm pretty good at wearing heels, and I tend to run on my toes so they don't hinder my wrestling. Not really good on rope maneuvers though. A real lady can wrestle in anything I always say lol. But I plan on getting something more ring-versatile soon though. I digress again lol...
Catch Queen: How did you make the transition from freestyle wrestling to the pro ring?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Ha, by my senior year, I thought it would be an awesome job to wrestle for a living. There are a few Indy workers that came out of my high school, graduated before me. They told me about WCPW's training school. I was like sign me up! lol.
Catch Queen: OK, we here at women-wrestling.org like decisive endings to matches...which means a pin or a submission. How do you prefer to end your matches? With a pin or a submission?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Hmm, making people tap is fun, but a nice solid pin hold is always good. So I'd say pins.
Catch Queen: When it comes to wrestling attire, what do you prefer to wear for your matches?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Two-piece with small bottoms or one-piece with cut outs. I don't like to feel constricted. I loved Luna Vachon's style. Skimpy, edgy, didn't distract from her wrestling ability, loved it. Fishnets look good, no matter how toned your legs are, there will always be a bad shot in bad lighting at a bad angle at some point in a match lol. I could never really find STW tights in my complexion with sucks. Always too light our too dark. But I did find a website with more color selection, and some with sparkle, like a Rockette.
Catch Queen: I loved the shiny pantyhose you wore for your Battleground Branson match against Maria Montana.
Crystal White (Carmichael): You remember a lot! Lol
Catch Queen: What is your favorite wrestling hold, and why do you like it?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Well, back in school it was called the Saturday Night Ride. Where you're on top and hook the outsides of your opponent's legs and split them apart. Hurts everyone I put it on. Holding their wrists out to the sides helps hold them down if you're strong enough, but I prefer a front faced chicken wing/smother technique I perfected.
Catch Queen: What are your plans for the future wrestling-wise?
Crystal White (Carmichael): This year I plan on reinventing myself. I’m designing a new outfit, planning on getting back to my Greco-Roman roots a little too. I miss wrestling like I used to. I want to really show what I have to offer in the ring. I'm sure my look can be a little off-putting, but I can be a lot more aggressive, sexy, and technical. And it’s all in the details.
Catch Queen: How exactly do you plan getting back to your Greco-Roman roots?
Outfit and technique-wise too?
Crystal White (Carmichael): Utilize more moves, more ground work, etc. and yeah, I'm sure my dress code intimidates some of the other girls. But hey, that's how I roll lol.
Catch Queen: And that’s one of the reasons we love you! Thank you for your time!
