Joshi Puroresu – Japanese women’s wrestling. The Japanese women’s wrestling scene is dominated by several women only promotions like GAEA, All-Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling, Sendai Girls etc. Needless to say, women’s wrestling is hugely popular in the country of the rising sun. Thousands attend events, and the quality of the action is above anything a western female wrestling lover can dream of. Names like Cuty Suzuki, Mimi Hagiwara, Mima Shimoda, the Jumping Bomb Angels, Kaoru Ito and Akira Hokuto come to mind, but just about every Japanese female wrestler featured by the established promotions was the embodiment of a way of life we westerners would find difficult to understand, and which turned these women into bathing suit-wearing, high-flying, hard-slamming, lightning-fast wrestling goddesses.
