Women Wrestling: I understand being a flight attendant is your regular job. Don’t people ever recognize you on the plane? (I know I would and I’d probably ask for your autograph too). Malia Hosaka: No, when you take people out of the aspect of life that you know them from you do not typically recognize them, besides I am not sure I was/am that famous that I would get recognized, but hey, should it happen I will definitely be flattered WW: It is well known that after 20 or so years in the wrestling business you’re in an outstanding shape, and you look as hot as ever. What’s your secret? Is it because of all the wrestling you do or is it a special eating/training program that you follow? Malia Hosaka: LOL!!!! I have gained a great deal of weight since going into a semi-retired state and really do not think of myself as being in great shape, so first let me say THANKS!!!! Truly thanks!!!! I try to watch what I eat but I have a sweet tooth, love cakes especially choc!! I go to the gym when time permits and try to do cardio, but I’m finding even that to be a chore these days. I used to love the gym now all I can think of is how to get out of going :-) WW: How do you train for wrestling? (I don’t mean your general workout routines, but those that you specifically do to maintain/augment your skills required in the ring) Malia Hosaka: I am sad to say that I no longer train, I am forever stuck in a rut and while there are many new things I would love to try, this old dog does not heal as quickly so I am hesitant to going flying off the top rope. If there were a school near me though I think I would try to go to keep the ring rust off, I do love the biz WW: You have probably won and lost matches via submission in your career. Which submission holds do you reckon are the most efficient, and what submission holds do you like to use/which do you fear the most? Malia Hosaka: the figure four is one of my favs! I think it is highly efficient in injuring someone and because of my knee surgery it is also one of my least favs to have applied. |
WW: Do you consider that winning a match via submission is more impressive than winning it through a pin? If so/not, why? Malia Hosaka: yes, because it only takes 3 seconds to win or loose via pin, to make one submit takes a lot more strength, cunning and patience; if the other person has heart do you make the choice to let go of the submission to save them from themselves or hold it and possibly end their career? WW: What would you consider the peak of your wrestling career so far? Malia Hosaka: that's a hard one, I have had many peaks and valleys in my career and a few what if's, but I guess being on Monday Night Nitro and being signed to a developmental deal were 2 of the highlights of my career, though neither really went anywhere. I also still hold my reign as the WLW Ladies Champion in high regard, and now working with so many talented girls at Shimmer is another peak as they are the future WW: Which wrestler from the LPWA did you enjoy working with the most? Malia Hosaka: that's easy, the Glamour Girls, Lei Lani and Judy without a doubt! |
---------------- With many of today’s lady wrestlers apparently not paying any attention to their in-ring attire, and with the variety of weird and often tasteless styles running amok, you seem to be one of the few wrestlers who still care a lot about style and in-ring image.. As you’re such a good costume specialist, I hope you can answer a few wardrobe-related questions. -----------------
WW: I remember back in the days you always wore shiny pantyhose with your ring outfits. Was that a fashion thing, an etiquette thing or more of a practical matter (to provide protection and keep the other pieces of your wardrobe under control?)
Malia Hosaka: A little of all the above, I wore Danskin tights which were thicker than those of my vets who typically wore cheaper hose, but it was for modesty, protection and helped keep things where they should be
WW: Do you prefer one piece suits (leotards) or two piece (bikini + top) sets?
Malia Hosaka: I prefer 2 piece outfits but I do not have the body for them any more nor the dedication to diet and weights it would take to get it back, so I am not comfortable in them, therefore I have chosen to go with pants/shorts styles that are matched with bustier style tops
WW: I know you wore traditional wrestling boots plenty of times, but for a while there, thigh-high boots seemed to have been your trademark ring-footwear. Do they provide any advantages over traditional boots?
Malia Hosaka: they do not really provide any advantages other than they are easy on and off, no lacing etc.. ( I am lazy when it comes to lacing) but I liked the look, it was different and prior to my knee surgery a way to cover my brace
WW: Do you prefer shiny+stretchy over matte+baggy?
Malia Hosaka: shiny+stretchy or even matte+stretchy, I do not care for the baggy look, but I am also a fan of comic book heroines, Xena and several computer games, if only I could capture those looks for my style…
