Ladies Wrestling Match Reviews
The other day, I was talking to an old friend online who – like me – is a life-long women’s wrestling fan. He is a frequent purchaser of ladies wrestling videos off the internet too, as there’s probably not a single production company out there whose creations he hasn’t yet sampled. What he was telling me was that he felt sort of a "cheated" after the majority of his purchases, and his complaints weren’t even in regards to the actual quality of the in-ring action, but rather tied to the overall visual experience. A highly visual genre of sports entertainment, there is no denying that the actual quality of the production and the resulting video is extremely important in ladies wrestling. What my friend told me was that he was always lured towards a certain match by the still images posted at the site as samples. Shot with high quality digital cameras and with an all-enhancing still-camera flash, these pictures do indeed tend to paint an idealized image of the actual product. As some of the HD WWE ladies matches I’ve seen clearly show, it is possible to shoot wrestling video at least as good as still pictures of the same action, but it’s obviously not easy for a small producer to create such technically perfect video. It takes lighting expertise and it takes serious and expensive equipment.
At the end of the day however, what I personally found was that the quality of the wrestling action was a far bigger problem in the case of some of the producers than the technical quality of the resulting video.
Tug-and-giggle action may have cut it in the 70s and 80s as far as small ladies combat producers were concerned, but with the abundance of quality wrestling hitting the www these days, those times are long gone. I personally understand and appreciate the importance of the attires the wrestlers wear to the ring and the proper showcasing of the entire visual ensemble, but I appreciate a good quality match much more.
In this section of this website we will try to review some of the video purchases we/our associates/friends make, and we will try to let you know which ones we consider worthy of supporting through your purchases.
We don’t like girls with no wrestling training trying to appear like they’re wrestling, yet it’s painfully obvious they wouldn’t be able to wrestle themselves out of a paper bag. We are fully aware of the kayfabe aspect of wrestling and its place in the action, but we’re not particularly fond of matches where the contestants look like they’re “faking being fake”. We like spectacular moves, and we appreciate athleticism. We like lady wrestlers who have lots of work and experience under their belts. We also appreciate professionally produced videos with proper lighting. These are the main factors by which we’ll attempt to judge the action presented in this section.
